Im sure you have seen the commercials or heard the word mentioned in polite conversation, but can it do anything for you? Uber is part of an emerging economy nicknamed "the gig economy". The concept of the gig economy is that people use technology to supplement their income. With Uber specifically, people choose to sign up and drive using their own car to give rides to strangers for money.

So what is the advantage to me?

As an "Uber Rider" you can get a ride at a significant discount over using a traditional taxi. First you need to create a login and password in the Uber app, which can be downloaded in your app store. Once you create an account you will associate a credit card with your profile. One of the advantages of using the Uber app for rides is that you do not pay the driver directly. You don't have to carry cash or tip the driver. When you book and complete a ride, Uber charges your card and pays the driver.

How does it work?

Once you have created your Uber profile on the app, simply open it and request a ride. You are notified that a rider is on the way and given an approximate time of arrival. You can text or call the driver after requesting a ride to give any specific instructions. Uber uses a phone number between you and the driver in the app. Your personal phone number is never shown to the driver for your security.

The ride starts when you get in the car and ends when you get out. You don't have to do anything else after requesting the ride! You will be prompted to rate your ride in the app. Drivers really appreciate a good review as users can see a drivers rating based on customer reviews. As always we are available to help you set up your Uber profile!
